SWHAP was introduced to a number of Swedish-linked companies in Nigeria and launched on 20 October, 2010. The aim was to provide support through the technical direction of the Nigerian Business Coalition Against AIDS (NIBUCAA) in order for these companies to develop and implement HIV and AIDS Workplace Policies and Programmes. At a later stage, the ultimate goal is that policies and programmes are sustained through the companies’ commitment.
Four out of the six invited Swedish-linked companies were present at the SWHAP launch and gave commitment towards the implementation of the programme in Nigeria. The four companies present were: Atlas Copco Nigeria Ltd, LM Ericsson Nigeria Ltd, Tetra Pak West Africa and GAC. Ericsson and GAC have started structuring their programmes within the SWHAP implementation model.
