SWHAP was launched in South Africa in 2004. Twenty-six Swedish-related companies, have benefited from the partnership; namely ABB, ABS Water, Alfa Laval, Assa Abloy, Atlas Copco, Autoliv, Babcock, Babcock Ntuthuko, Becker, Ericsson, HemoCue, Hydroscand, Lincoln Fabrications, Metso, Phillip Morris International, Quant, SAAB, Sandvik, Scania, Securitas, SKF, SSAB, Tetra Pak, Trelleborg, UD Trucks, and Volvo Trucks. Funding applications for most of the participants were approved in 2005. At the end of that year, the majority of the companies had successfully implemented their workplace HIV and AIDS programmes and had completed HIV Counselling and Testing. Owing to this, they were free to customize their programmes according to the individual companies’ needs and prevalence rates. Most programmes evolved to address HIV within a wellness context also looking at issues around gender and diversity management.
The SWHAP network in South Africa is much appreciated by the participants. It organizes a number of recurring meetings and activities, such as CEO and management workshops, and labour leaders’ capacity building.
