SOUTH AFRICA

The SWHAP was launched in South Africa in 2004. Today, 13 Swedish-related companies, employing 9400 persons, are active in the programme; namely ABB, Alfa Laval, Assa Abloy, Atlas Copco, Autoliv, Ericsson, Raffia Tufbag, Saab, Sandvik, Scania, SKF, Swedish Match, Tetra Pak and Volvo. Funding applications for most of the participants were approved in 2005. At the end of that year, a majority of the companies had successfully implemented their workplace HIV and Aids programmes and had completed VCT. Owing to this, they were free to customize their programmes according to the individual companies’ needs and prevalence rates.

The SWHAP network in South Africa is much appreciated by the participants. It organizes a number of recurring meetings and activities, such as CEO’s conferences, management network workshops, and labor leaders’ capacity building workshops and has now progressed to extending the programme to the immediate family.
