The SWHAP was launched in Tanzania in March 2007. The companies so far engaged in the SWHAP are Tanelec, Scania, Seekab, Atlas Copco, Sandvik, ABB and Ericsson, with an amount of 540 employees. The companies have been working on formulating company policies and a few of the companies are in the start-up phase of developing a comprehensive programme. Most of the companies are relatively small and therefore the support of SWHAP is needed in the fight against HIV and Aids.
So far, awareness raising acitivities and VCT has been conducted at some of the companies and the companies hold regular contact with their committees. One company even hosted a visit from the Zambian branch to coach them about how the programme had been executed in Zambia. This proved to be crucial in inspiring the Tanzanian branch in starting to plan their workplace programme.
