The SWHAP was launched in Uganda on February 16th 2007. Three Swedish companies participated in the event; ABB, Ericsson and Scania and together they employ approximately 117 workers. On the launch of the SWHAP, the representatives from the three companies were sensitized about SWHAP and also educated on why HIV and AIDS is a Business issue. A planning session for the workplace programmes has also been held and the three companies sent in participants to be trained as peer educators and champions of the HIV and AIDS programme at their respective workplaces. One of the companies has, through their Nairobi office (to whom they report), set up a workplace programme that has already reached VCT-levels of over 70 per cent among their staff.
The programme in Uganda has run quite effectively through promoting a few networking activities and using the regional company structure to implement the programme. The latter suggest that a company programme can be administratively run through the head office in Nairobi.
